Alright so here goes: my food blog. My first post won’t be very long, just a quick intro, since I am a bit bleary eyed from my drive back from wine county, my day of work, and reading a bunch of articles from my new gig at ‘Mutineer Magazine’. Anyway, I’m Sarah and if you like you can read a bit more about me in my profile.
What I want to talk about is crab. Dungeness crab. Those who know me know that I do not like seafood. Yes, I realize it is a big category of food to cut out, but thats just the way it is. Not that I won’t and have not tried all kinds of sushi and fish. Just this past weekend alone I have tried shrimp, salmon ceviche, and calamari. Nonetheless, I did also have Dungeness crab with a butter sauce the simply won me over. Delicious. Then I had it again the next night after coming home from the bars. Fantastic.
Today on my drive home from Sonoma Valley I couldn’t stop craving crab in butter sauce. So on my trip to the Berkeley Bowl today (more on that in future posts), I had to get some Dungeness crab. Unfortunately the store only carried the already shelled crab meat or live crabs. And there was no way I was going to buy, transport, and cook (not to mention clean) a live crab. Even if I wanted to I am sure my microwave would’ve been less of a death box and more of a merry-go-round for said crab. Crab meat it is.
The actual crab meat did not seem as tasty as the fresh crab I had to shell. Ironically for someone as squeamish as me, I found that digging out the small pieces of meat made it even more delicious. Plus the crabmeat I’m sure is just not as fresh. So from now on, only fresh crab I have to shell….
